Video diary from Lao PDR : more information from the MAG
The U.S. government was prepared to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to bomb innocent people and has almost nothing undone. Compensation for the survivors, such as reparations after the Second World War, verandas, to appropriations by the duds, which they left behind, all the thousands of bombs that kill and injure people today - the United States do not care about it. But people who had to suffer the pay for it all their lives.
Between 1964 and 1973 bomb the U.S., "the land of million elephants" around the clock, in 580,000 flights (more than in Vietnam) 2.1 million tons of bombs are thrown on Laos. That is an average of every 8 minutes a bomb, 24 hours a day, for nine years. They are more bombs than on Germany and Japan descended together throughout the Second World War. Much of the country is infested with millions of unexploded ordnance and defoliant "Agent Orange". To this day people die from the aftermath of that war. At the same time forcing the CIA members of a Laotian mountain people, the Hmong, as soldiers in a secret guerrilla army. In the fight against the Vietcong and Laotian communists they come to tens of thousands killed.
As the U.S. lose the war in Vietnam, they give up the secret base Long Cheng: the city, the airport, the guerrilla army. As revealed in Vietnam in Laos they leave their helpers and allies, and the Hmong persecution by the new communist government in Vientiane.
